Girlhood
With Snake
1999
While in my studio, there was a print of The Pommegranate above this piece and I realized that it was the same woman, but as a little girl.
This piece is about the beginning of lesson. She is standing directly on the big red X. This is the right place at the right time to learn the lessons of her soul.
The snake woven into the fabric of her dress tells us two things. One, that it is not an easy path. We must face the rattlesnakes we have chosen to learn from in this life. And two, ultimately those snakes are a part of us.
Only by remembering that can we truly become fearless.
