A new bilingual children’s book series that celebrates LGBTQ history through the lens of multicultural and multigenerational queer family<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Pop-Ups’ Picnic,<\/span><\/em> the first book in the series, will be published by Reflection Press in 2017<\/p>\n

\"Pop-UpsThe Pop-Ups are what we call GrandPop and PopPop, Sky\u2019s grandfathers. Like all grandparents, they love spending time with their grandkid.<\/p>\n

Sky\u2019s first big plane trip was to the Pop-Ups\u2019 picnic to meet all kinds of family, the relatives she\u2019s related to by birth and the aunties, uncles, queens and fairies she\u2019s also<\/em> related to by birth. Sky\u2019s family is 2nd<\/sup> generation with queer parents and<\/em><\/u> grandparents! So while there\u2019s always family, there\u2019s also “family<\/em><\/strong>!”<\/p>\n

The series opens with the Pop-Ups’ annual picnic. It\u2019s tradition to bring the community together once a year ever since the small town\u2019s gay bar closed. Now everyone\u2019s invited! \u201cFamily\u201d and family!\u00a0 A peek into LGBTQ history through the lens of family<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And the Pop-Ups and Sky have just begun.<\/strong> Follow the series as life and history become one! Weddings, Oakland Pride, the Castro, the Sisters, Compton Cafeteria, Philly\u2019s Gayborhood, NYC\u2019s Stonewall.<\/p>\n
